On 7 June 1944 , some members of a famous company were having a photoshoot inside the Marmion Farm , situated 800 yards south of Ravenoville towards Foucarville at the intersection with the D15 Baudienville road .

The Germans dug a trench west of the dirt road that leads you to the farm .

Donald Burgett and his Able-Co buddies occupied that trench and set up a roadblock at the intersection using Hawkins mines . The mines were covered by cowpies . “That’s all there was…!”

There used to be a treeline next to the road to Ravenoville . That’s where Don saw the german catwalks in the trees.

Standing in a ditch at the intersection they noticed a farmer walking towards the crossroads pulling a handcart and they hollored “ No..No..No….Boom..Booooom…”

The farmer didn’t understand and continued his way. While running back to the trench they saw how the man easily walk through the mined roadblock and disappeared .

Don occupied the trench near the roadblock and thought it would come in handy to have some protection . He started to collect rocks and built a 2 feet wall , Harold Phillips jumped in and gave him a hand .

A German soldier started to fire from across the road with a Schmeisser and hit the stone wall several times . He swung around west and spread the trench with his LMG …

Don threw a handgranade and the german disappeared .
PfC Justo A. Correa from TX (WIA Bastogne ) was sitting in the trench and his helmet showed a bullethole at the front and in the back . He lived . The bullet went in , swung around the liner and got out at the back .

Wednesday 21 may Woody took our bunch to Marmion where Don told us his story and pointed exactly where he had built that stone wall .

His grandson Jake jumped in the bushes to get into the trench ….

A few minutes later….

This was the first of many highlights of our trip with Battlebus !

Marmion Farm. Looked for it, couldn't find it. Maybe we passed it but I sadly didn't notice it. Next time I'm in Normandy, I'll find it for sure.
